Safe Ingredients Promise

Our Safe Ingredients Promise

Our products are always cruelty free, and contain only pure, gentle ingredients that work with your hair, not against it. We leave out what we call The Awful 8: Silicones, sulfates, mineral oils/petroleum, parabens, phthalates, PEG, propylene glycol, chlorine and formaldehyde.

Pure and Proven

Plant-based active ingredients make our products super-effective by improving the actual health of your hair, not just giving it a short-term fix.

Only the Best

We leave out the scary chemicals and fillers so all that's left are the best non-toxic ingredients. To preserve the highest level of quality, our products are formulated in the USA and made in FDA registered facilities with globally sourced ingredients. These facilities are inspected and adhere to the requirements of the United States Food and Drug Administration, (FDA).

The Awful 8 and 17 other ingredients you won't find in our products:

the AWFUL 8
1

SILICONE

It may give your hair instant shine and smoothness, but over time silicones cause damage and dullness by suffocating your hair with layers of plastic polymer build up. More importantly, they've been known to cause skin irritation and disrupt hormone function.
2

SULFATES

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
Used as a detergent, sulfates are a key ingredient found in heavy-duty cleaners you'd never dare use on your skin and hair, like car wash soaps and engine degreasers. They've been known to enter the bloodstream with carcinogenic formations of nitrate and dioxins, and that's why you won't find them in our products.
3

MINERAL OIL AND PETROLATUM

These two cousin ingredients both come from crude oil, the same raw material that winds up as gas in your car tank and oil in your engine. Unlike plant-based oils, they can't be fully absorbed by the skin, ultimately creating a barrier that keeps out natural moisture and nutrients.
4

PARABENS

Used as a preservative, studies have shown parabens are hormone disruptors, interfering with our body's natural endocrine cues. Look out for ingredients ending with paraben like methylparaben, butylparaben, propylparaben, isobutylparaben and ethylparaben.
5

PHTHALATES

DBP, DEHP and DEP
Phthalates are plastics used to make cosmetics, skin and haircare more pliable and fragrance adhere to skin. They're not found in any of our formulas since they're known hormone disruptors and can even cause birth defects.
6

PEG

An abbreviation for polyethylene glycol, you'll probably be able to spot this ingredient listed on any number of your household cleaning products. They'll strip your skin and hair of natural moisture and over time, weaken your immune system while also being potentially carcinogenic.
7

PROPYLENE GLYCOL (PG)

As a wetting agent and solvent, this ingredient is actually the active component in antifreeze. So no surprise exposure through conventional hair and skincare products can lead to brain, liver and kidney abnormalities.
8

CHLORINE

Exposure to chlorine has a whole laundry list of scary side-effects, from spiking asthma to irritation of your major organs. It's also a possible cause of cancer. Though you won't see chlorine on personal care product labels, it's important to protect your skin when bathing and washing your hair through the use of water filters or shorter showers.
9

FORMALDEHYDE

A known carcinogen that's been linked to asthma, neurotoxicity, and developmental toxicity, it's still found in thousands of makeup, skin and hair care products - except ours.
10

FD&C COLOR PIGMENTS

Synthetic color pigments can cause skin sensitivity and irritation - absorbing certain colors can deplete your body of oxygen and has even been known to result in fatalities.
11

ANIMAL FATS, OILS AND MUSKS

These byproducts of the meat industry often come from commercially raised animals that have been treated with synthetic hormones. which then gets passed onto the product it's used in.
12

BENZALKONIUM CHLORIDE

A disinfectant used as a preservative and surfactant, it's been known to cause severe skin and eye irritation, respiratory issues and allergies.
13

BENZOPHENONE AND DERIVATIVES

You can find these in commercial fragrances, but we've left them out of our products due to their carcinogenic side effects and status as a hormone disruptor.
14

BISPHENOLA (BPA)

Used in plastics and resins, studies have shown they're capable of hormone disruption that may also negatively affect your DNA structure.
15

BUTOXYETHANOL

Usually used as a fragrance additive, or to control the viscosity of a product, none of our products carry this ingredient since it's a known skin irritant that may cause cancer and affect reproductive function.
16

BUTYLATED HYDROXYANISOLE (BHA) AND BUTYLATED HYDROXY TOLUENE (BHT)

These synthetic antioxidants are used to extend the shelf life of thousands of products. They've been linked to cancer and hormone disruption, and may even cause liver damage.
17

COAL TAR HAIR DYES AND OTHER COAL TAR INGREDIENTS (INCLUDING AMINOPHENOL, DIAMINOBENZENE, PHENYLENEDIAMINE)

A byproduct of coal processing known to be carcinogenic and can be contaminated with heavy metals toxic to the brain.
18

IMIDAZOLIDINYL UREA AND DMDM HYDANTOIN

We've avoided the use of imidazolidinyl urea and DMDM Hydantoin, two of many preservatives that release formaldehyde. It's a chemical that causes health issues from joint pain, allergies and in the worst case - even cancer.
19

METHYL CELLOSOLV

A fragrance ingredient and solvent that can irritate the skin and create cancer-causing DNA mutations. And that's not the all - it's also a possible neuro- and developmental toxin.
20

METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE AND METHYLCHLOROISOTHIAZOLINONE

Hair and body care products are often laced with these chemical preservatives to lengthen their shelf life. But beware: They're a known skin irritant that have also been linked to cancer and nerve damage.
21

MERCURY AND MERCURY COMPOUNDS (ALSO LISTED AS THIMEROSAL)

Check your labels for this metallic element, used as a preservative and antiseptic in health care products, despite being known to damage brain function.
22

OXYBENZONE

You'll see this in sunscreens, since it's an ultraviolet light absorber. but you'll want to steer clear as it's linked to skin irritation, sensitization and allergies and a possible hormone disruptor.
23

RESORCINOL

A colorant and fragrance ingredient that can have the side effects irritating the skin, compromising the immune system and organ function, and has been suspected to cause endocrine abnormalities.
24

TOLUENE

A volatile petrochemical solvent to 100k out for, due to its toxicity to the immune system and potential to cause birth defects.
25

TRICLOSAN AND TRICLOCARBAN

Put these antimicrobial pesticides on your list of ingredients to avoid as they've been linked to serious reproductive issues.
